Becoming the real you
Who are you meant to be:
- the person whom you are trying to create yourself to be, or
- the person whom God is willing to help you create yourself to be?
1. Now, perhaps more than in the past, people are engaging coaches and trainers (for themselves and for their children) for fitness, health, lifestyle, sports, career, dance, etc. And every one of the training programs includes setting improvement goals and a procedural plan which, if followed, assures the achievement of the desired goal.
Who or what are the current trainers you are allowing to help you in walking your walk, talking your talk into who you are becoming?
2. But when it comes to things like self and inter-relational development, few consider any training or plan to be necessary. At age eighteen, I entered a religious community and underwent a training program similar to armed service training and professional sports training regimens: 24/7 programs inviting the participants to "be all that they can be." (U.S. Army Ad Campaign)
Who are the people and what are the situations that are inviting you to “be all that you can be”? Who and what is holding you back from being “all that you can be”?
3. My Catholic religious community five-year training period was developed by Saints Augustine (354 ce -430) and Benedict (c.480 ce -547). The goal of the program was to teach me how to respond to Jesus' call, "Come, follow me" and by that was meant leaving of one way of living and embarking on a radically different way of living, a way considered strange to many, and that it is, but it can a most joy-filled and spiritually richest possible human way of living. Strangely, a God and other-centered life of deprivations and lost freedoms, is freer and more genuine than when one makes their own decisions and has everything they want.
4. The Book of Genesis tells us that God made man and woman in the "image and likeness of God" and "God saw that this was good." We, humans, then, took things into our own hands and went our own way. The rest of the Bible is about our journeys back to God.
What is presented here is a way to add some structure to one's everyday life that enables one to do just that: Journey back to God. What you may find is a suggestion of a way to do that. It has worked for centuries and is still being used today. Why is this needed? Because we, the Adam and Eves of today still are reaching for those apples instead of following the path God is creating for us.
5. So, begin by considering who you are and who you are meant to be. (See the "Who are you meant to be" question above.) When I first did this, I wasn't sure of the answers and may not be completely sure now, but I did and do know that God is accompanying me as I am journeying through my one and only life.
Then decide if you want God to be your trainer or if you want to find another trainer or do it yourself. (See the "Things to Consider" below.)
6. These pages are no quick-read. Sit still. Be quiet. When something you read stirs something inside you, stop and see if, in the stillness, what made that happen will come to the surface so that you can know what it is and address it.
Remember: We all want to do things on our own.
Sometimes we can, often we need help
and may be afraid or reluctant to ask.
Don’t be afraid.
God wants to help you
but will not force himself on you.
Look through these resources
to see what may help you
to ask God for help.
You won’t be disappointed.

Only in God will you FIND yourself for only God knows you. Only God is able to help you grow into the fullness of who you are meant to be.
Things To Consider:
Give God a Chance -You won't be disappointed
God gave you a free will. God won't violate that. To get God's help you have to open yourself to God.
Who Are your current trainers?
Advertisers, Media, Internet, people who want something from you, your own self-centered inclinations, etc.?
Stop waiting for Miracles
Maybe God already made the miracles and they are us?
Were we to pay attention to whatever purpose God had in "wiring" us to think, feel, emote, sense, make decisions, etc., would we become better versions of ourselves? Would more miracles happen in and through us? Would the world be a better place?
