Second Sunday of Lent - Year C, Lectionary: 27
“Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up the mountain to pray.
While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white. And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah. . . . Peter and his companions had been asleep, but becoming fully awake,
they saw his glory and the two men. . . . Peter said to Jesus, ‘Master, it is good that we are here.’” Luke 9:28-33
AVAILABLE EVERYDAY TRANSFIGURATIONS
How much of the magnificence of the ever-present God (in our midst) do we miss because, like Peter, James and John, we are asleep while these miraculous encounters are happening right in front of us in the events of our everyday lives?
Think of the events and the people you have encountered during this past week: how deeply were you present and attentive to what was going on during these encounters? Were you aware that God was there. You do believe that God is everywhere, right? So why would God have not been there then – and here now?
GOD’S EVERYDAY PRESENCE WITHIN AND BETWEEN US
So, there you were, God’s son or daughter, the one God let be there at that time. What did you do with that potentially miraculous moment of grace and healing? What could you have done? Why didn’t you do and what did you learn from that? What misstep could have been avoided? What missed response could have brought grace, joy or even healing into the situation?
DO YOU SEE YOUR LIFE AS BORING?
If you think that your life is boring, maybe God is calling you to use this Lenten season to do something that will help you realize that you can and should do something to change your attitude and how you have been seeing the encounters with which your days are filled.
A way to being less bored is the find a way to awaken yourself to the deeper level of what God means every moment of your life to be. Think about this and whether you believe it. I could try to explain this to you, but it would be better for you if you would think about it and let the everpresent God speak to you without words but through your true inner self that is wanting you to grow into the “you” that God has given you the potential to become. God has never and will never force that “you” upon you. God honors your choices. If you want God’s help and are willing to cooperate with the graces, you will receive it. Our baptisms are two-sided covenants, us and God working together day by day, year after year.
PERSONAL TRANSFIGURATION
What a wonderful world this could be if only more often we would let God’s presence within and around us come to the surface and transfigure us!
But instead, we let ourselves be tired and bored by events and things
that will be forgotten by us
in the not-too-far-off future.
How much time we waste
as God patiently waits
for us to let in the graces, the blessings,
the joy of our days.
God is endlessly offering each of us so much!
Let us gather for Mass this weekend to experience the dazzling Resurrected Jesus.
With our whole hearts may we proclaim,
“Master, it is good that we are here.”
May we be filled with gratitude for God’s patienty waiting for us to “get it” – how much God loves us, in spite of our blindness to God. How continually God offerd us graces to amend our searching and turn our attention to being the persons God hopes we will become. How often have I refused to receive these graces of conversion and transformation?
THOUGHTS TO PONDER
What graces is God sending my way this Lent?
What can I do to allow myself to be more of the “me” God intends me to be?
